The Brighton Street Art Fair opened on Friday 21 August 2026 in Brighton, Michigan and ran through Sunday. According to CBS News Detroit, this was the third annual edition. The Guild of Artists and Artisans organises the fair, which was open 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.

A street art fair in the United States is not a graffiti festival

This is worth spelling out for anyone who follows murals. In American usage, a street art fair is an outdoor market: a town closes its streets, artists set up booths, and finished work is sold. What most of the world now means by street art — painting fixed to a wall, free to look at, often outlasting the person who made it — is a separate tradition that happens to share the word.

CBS News Detroit reports that the fair carried jewellery, ceramics, photography, leather goods and original paintings. Allison Neal, senior director of marketing for the Guild of Artists and Artisans, described the range this way: "Different price points, you can get an original painting that could cost upwards in the thousands, or you can get just a little wallet that would be like $30 there's a little bit for everyone."

Booths are not handed out on request. According to CBS News Detroit, a panel of artists reviews applications and decides who gets in.

Both traditions have a gatekeeper — they are just different people

That jury is the quiet link between the two kinds of street art. A juried fair puts the decision in the hands of a panel of artists. A wall puts it in the hands of a building owner, a city department, or nobody at all. The question is never whether public art is filtered before it reaches the street; it is who does the filtering, and whether the person painting accepts that answer.

The weekend also included live music and children's art activities run by the Brighton Guild, plus a separate kids' art fair on Saturday showing work by young artists.
